Obituary

Shelby L. Robinson of Amarillo passed away on June 7, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 17, 1940 in Honey Grove, Texas to Joseph “Joe” and Mary “Elizabeth” Robinson. Shelby moved to Amarillo in 1957 to drive a truck during the construction of the Amarillo Air Force Base which later became Amarillo International Airport. It is in Amarillo where he met the love of his life Raylene Wilcox. They were married on December 19, 1960 and spent 61 wonderful years together. Shelby worked for Amarillo Fire Department as a firefighter and driver from 1963-1967. In 1971, Shelby and Raylene opened Shelby L. Robinson Construction Company where they operated it together until April 2022. Shelby taught his boys about the construction and paving business and how to operate heavy machinery. He was able to build just about anything. Shelby was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church from 1982-2014 where he served on the Building and Grounds Committee for many years. In 2014, he became a member of CrossRoads Country Church where he was the official wassail maker for "Christmas in the Barn". Shelby enjoyed frying catfish and spending time with his family and friends. He was a big supporter of High Plains Retreat Center. Shelby will be deeply missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Joel Ray Robinson and a sister, Claudia Friday.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Raylene Robinson of Amarillo; son Barry Robinson and wife Karen of Amarillo; daughter Trisha Garza and husband Orlando of Amarillo; brother Travis Robinson and wife Mary of Amarillo. Six grandchildren Shane Robinson, Jordan Robinson, Ashley Collins and husband Alex, Bayley Robinson, Tucker Garza and Sydney Garza. Three great-grandchildren Ashlynn Robinson, Lauren Robinson and Hayden Robinson along with many nieces and nephews.
