Octava Fike Obituary

Octava Frances (Jones) Fike, 100, of Amarillo, was received into the arms of her Heavenly Father and Lord on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday at First Church of the Nazarene, 5201 S. Soncy Rd. Octava was born on Dec 9, 1919, in Dublin, Texas. She graduated from High School in Cisco, TX, Magna Cum Laude. She married the Rev. Dr. Frederick Fike in 1945, saying, "being a pastor's wife fit me like a glove". She spent her life with her husband in the Lord's work in the Church of the Nazarene where they pastored churches in Texas, New York, and New Mexico. For 40 years she served as a delegate to each of the denomination's General Assemblies. Throughout her adult life, each day started with a time of communion with God, praying and reading the Bible. Starting in 1950, she read the entire Bible from cover to cover each year. She had a passion for missions and served as District Missionary President in the West Texas District and the New Mexico District, for a total of more than 18 years. She was a prayer warrior who prayed daily for missionaries all over the world. She sent Christmas cards to hundreds of missionaries each year. Additionally, she directed over 50 Vacation Bible Schools, was a speaker at numerous events, and made countless personal visits to the sick and homebound. She had a consuming love for the Lord, His Word and people. Octava was preceded in death by Fred Fike, her husband of 66 years; parents, Robert and Polly Jones; brother, RC; and sisters, Winell, Ruby, Emma Lee, and Urma Ruth. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Mulkey, and her husband, Spencer, of Amarillo, TX; daughter, Lorna Fike, of Amarillo, TX and Ruidoso, NM; son, David Fike, and his wife, Renea, of Arlington, TX; grandchildren, Tara Fike, Lindi Berry and husband Steven, Larry Paul Bell; great-grandchildren, Vaughn Berry and Stevie Berry; and, brother, Jimmy Jones, of Odessa, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charity, Hope Harbor, a transitional home for women with children. PO Box 1296, Ruidoso, NM 88355. http://www.hopeharbornm.org/
