Paul Harper Obituary

Paul Dean Harper of Amarillo passed away on August 31, 2022. Paul was born January 10, 1940, in Hale Center. During his school years he played first chair in the band and was All District end in football. He married the love of his life Molly Hawkins on July 3, 1960 in Ft. Worth, Texas. Paul was a banking officer for several years in Ft. Worth, Dallas and Amarillo. He was an officer in the Elks Lodge, President of the Panhandle Bluegrass Association, President elect of the volunteers at Northwest Texas Hospital. Paul enjoyed oil exploration (AKA Doodle Bugging) across the United States, Canada, Peoples Republic of China and Australia. The last few years were spent in sales and sales management.

He returned to Amarillo after being gone for 10 years. In his “free” time he joined a Seniors Music Combo playing for nursing homes, churches, weddings, special events or just getting together and jamming. His last project was picking up and delivering food from the food banks for neighbors that could not make the trip. He liked to laugh, fish, eat and a challenge. He liked to joke that he was ‘A jack of all trades, but a master of none”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Larry in 1995, and two brothers Wallace “Slim” and David Harper.

He is survived by his loving wife Molly, son James Harper, nephew Ken Harper and niece Kathy Howell along with many loving friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Amarillo Heart Hospital or to the American Lung Association.
