Phillip Godwin, 85, of Amarillo, passed away on September 09, 2021. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Phillip was born on March 1, 1936 in Amarillo to Luther and Nita Godwin. He graduated from Amarillo High School and attended Texas Tech University. Phillip worked for Sante Fe Railroad and was in the Army National Guard for six years. Phillip later worked for Pantex and remained with them for 30 years as a Program Planner before he retired. He loved speed, and raced sports cars for ten years. Among his many hobbies was astronomy. Phillip built his own telescopes to look at the heavens. He also enjoyed photography and combined that with astronomy to take pictures, through the telescopes, of planets. He also built model airplanes.
Phillip was a very loving husband, father, grandad, and great-grandad. He had a great time doing things with his family and grandchildren. Phillip always had answers for his grandchildren’s questions and there wasn’t much he didn’t know. He was very inventive and resourceful. Phillip’s motto was, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. When something was broken, he was a whiz at using whatever he had on hand to get the job done. Phillip was a very intelligent and caring man. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, L.E. and Nita Godwin; two sisters, Peggy Stephenson and Barbara White.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Godwin of the home; one daughter, Christia Cundall; grandchildren, Aubrey Godwin (Sarah), Rian Moody (Joshua) and Douglas P. Cundall (Traci); Great-grandchildren, Malachi Moody, Copper Godwin, Ollie Godwin, Gabriel Cundall, Douglas W. Cundall and Ruby Cundall; two nephews, Curtis White and David White.
