Rhett Ruttman Obituary

Rhett Carson Ruttman, 48, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Monday at OASIS Church, 8201 Canyon Drive, with Chaplain Stanislaus Stepnowski officiating.

Born on Saturday, May 12, 1973, in Lubbock, Texas, Rhett was nurtured by his in-home babysitter, Mom Little, from birth to entering kindergarten while his mother taught school. Rhett and Mom had many special moments and he loved her very much.

Rhett completed kindergarten and first grade in the Ralls ISD system before moving with his sister and mother to Follett, TX.  The majority of his schooling was at Follett ISD with a couple of years at Boys Ranch.  After graduating from Follett in May 1991, he attended Panhandle State University briefly before joining the U. S. Marine Corps where he spent the majority of his service overseas. Rhett was very devoted to the Marines and loved his fellow servicemen.

Returning to the US, he attended WTSU for a short time before entering the workforce. Rhett worked for Kelly Moore Paint Company, Walmart, and Lowe’s before joining the City of Amarillo where he spent his last five years operating heavy equipment at the landfill.

On June 3, 2005, his twin daughters, Shelby and Kelsey, were born and they quickly became the apple of his eye. This group was very tight knit and spent a great deal of time together. On October 31, 2017, Rhett and his girls married Audra McAnear Coggins and he gained two more children, Keira and Brandon.

Rhett is survived by his wife, Audra; his daughters Shelby, Kelsey and Keira; his son, Brandon; his mother, Margaret Ruttman; his special aunt, Carolyn Shields; a host of cousins and other relatives; longtime friends, Will and Lori Hannay, Eric Gedeon, David and Annette Foster and a host of other friends. Rhett truly cherished time with his dogs Mattis, Breccan, Hattie and Sally.

Rhett was a very hard worker, never met a stranger, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Rhett will be dearly missed by all.
