Richard Stafford, 88, of Canyon, passed away on Friday April 14, 2023. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday April 19, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Dallas Stringer officiating. Anyone wishing to pay their respects to Richard may do so on Tuesday April 19, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Richard was born on February 15, 1935 in Jamestown, Ohio to Vernon and Esta Stafford. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. as sergeant. He served in the Korean War and also helped with the atomic testing’s on marshal Island. Richard was discharged in California in 1956. He worked for Boeing in Seattle following his time in California and then made his way to Amarillo in 1966. Richard worked as an Engineer Technician for most of his life, working for KVII for 20 years and also Pantex for 20 years before he retired full time.
Richard could fix anything, he was a talented and gifted man and was always willing to help his family and friends repair a car, bicycle and even watches. He loved working with electronics. Richard enjoyed sports and in his early days he even played fast pitch softball positioned as the pitcher. He loved being surrounded by his family and spending time with his wife of 40 years, Carol. He was loved by many, and will be missed.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kenny Stafford, Bob Stafford and Donald Stafford.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Stafford of the home, one son, Craig Stafford; two daughters, Mary McKee and husband Billy and Debbie Youngblood all of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Misty, Candy “Pete”, Amanda and Brandon; 10 great grandchildren.
