Obituary

Steve Byars, 72, of Amarillo, died on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Hillside Christian Church Chapel, 6100 S. Soncy, with Pastor Greg Corona officiating. Steve was born August 5, 1948 in Amarillo to Wayne and Ruby Waulene Byars. He graduated from Tascosa High School. He worked as a licensed journeyman electrician for American Electric for 30 years, retiring in 2010. Steve was a longtime member of  IBEW Local Union 602. Steve married Janet Helton in 1980 in Amarillo. In his spare time, Steve enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He and Janet enjoyed travelling in their RV. He was a cyclist, both mountain and road bikes. Steve loved spending time with his grandkids, and he adored his dogs. He was a master joke teller and loved making people laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Garry Byars. Survivors include his wife, Janet Byars; a daughter, Amy Worsham and husband Jeff of Amarillo; two sons, Danny Byars and wife Hannah, and Jason Byars and wife D’Neesa all of Amarillo; a sister, Pam Davenport of Dallas; and 14 grandchildren, Luke, Libby, Will, Grace, Lily, Emerson, Ella, Ruby Quinn, Kai, Samuel, Xander, Kaden, River, and Layke. The family suggests memorials may be made to Hillside Christian Church.
