Susan Miller

Susan Miller, 66, of Amarillo, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive with Pastor Travis Bennett of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church officiating. Viewing will be from 12:00 PM — 5:00 PM Sunday, and 8:00 AM — 8:00 PM Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be live-streamed on the Cox-Rowley Facebook page Tuesday.

Susan was born May 1, 1954, to Jesse and Naomi Bewley in Camp Polk, LA. As a young girl, Susan was active in Rainbow Girls and Girl Scouts. She attended Canyon High School where she was a member of the choir and as a senior, was voted most witty. She graduated in 1972. Susan met her husband Danny Miller in the fall of 1971, and they married December 28, 1974, in Canyon. Susan and Danny made their home in Canyon for two years before moving to Amarillo. Susan was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canyon, and Danny joined her in 1975. They transferred their membership to Kingswood United Methodist Church in Amarillo. Both of Susan’s Children were baptized in the church. Susan was a member of the Methodist Women’s group. Susan and Danny helped build a small country church, Rockwell Road Bible Church, where they attended for several years. To their marriage, two sons were born, Justin Lane on January 11, 1978, and Ryan Neil on August 13, 1980. Susan and her husband celebrated 45 years of marriage together. The have been truly blessed in their years together.

Susan worked in retail sales from 1975 to 1977 and was fortunate to be able to be a stay-at-home mom for 17 years. After raising children and working part-time in retail, Susan decided to go back to college. She graduated from West Texas State University in 1993, with a bachelor degree in Psychology. She worked for Catholic Family Services in Amarillo for one year with the Children and Adolescents Reaching Excellence (C.A.R.E.) Department and the gang and drug prevention program. She was promoted to C.A.R.E. facilitator, conducting prevention programs at day care centers, elementary schools, and at the Juvenile Detention Center. In September 1996, she went to work for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Texas Panhandle as the agency Case Manager. Susan then began her career with Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in October 1999 and would work with them for nearly 21 years. She started out in the placement department and remained in that department for the first three years. For the next 17 years she worked as a scholarship coordinator for over 500 men and women who graduated from Boys Ranch and were attending colleges around the country. She took great interest in her sons’ activities, specifically Cub Scouts; she was Den Leader and Historian of Cub Scout Pack #81 in Amarillo. Both Danny and Susan were scout leaders for many years. Susan had many hobbies, she was an active member in a monthly Bunco group for over 10 years; Susan joined the Red Hat Society at the age of 49, and was Founding Queen of "Rebel Rousers" in 2014.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Danny Miller of the home; two sons, Justin Miller and wife Jannie, and Ryan Miller and wife Jennifer; four grandchildren, Landon, Olive, Gus, and Lilly. The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
