Sylvia "Charlene" Andregg Obituary

Sylvia “Charlene” Andregg, 72 of Amarillo, passed away on Monday January 17, 2022, in Amarillo. Memorial services are scheduled for 3:00 PM on Saturday January 29, 2022 at Trinity Fellowship Church - North Campus at 503 E Willow Creek Drive.

Charlene was a unique and loving individual who loved to read her bible and praise the Lord. She would spend hours in her own personal bible study and believed in the gospel with all of her heart. As a teenager, she was a talented athlete, excelling in both volleyball and basketball. In her adult years, she continued to play both sports in adult recreation leagues in both Texas and Oklahoma until an old injury would allow it no more.

In 1972 Charlene moved to Houston, Texas where she met and married Jim Matthews. Jim was a widower with a 7 year old son, Joel. In 1974 Jim and Charlene welcomed their daughter, Casey. Charlene adopted and raised Joel as her own son and the 4 of them lived together until Jim and Charlene divorced in 1980.

Charlene was a talented seamstress and as a young mother, would sew adorable matching outfits for herself and her daughter to wear. She would also sew her kid’s Halloween costumes and bake festive cakes for holidays in fun shapes like bunnies and hearts. Charlene grew up playing the piano and would play “by ear” as she always said when she practiced songs from church. To this day, there is no better rendition of “When the Saints go Marching In”!

In 1981 Charlene met and married Dr. Fred Andregg. Charlene and Casey relocated to Muskogee, Oklahoma to live with Fred and his two sons, Mark and Steve. Joel would join them later spending Summers in Oklahoma between semesters at college. This newly blended family enjoyed traveling and spending time on Lake Tenkiller enjoying boating, water skiing, swimming and fishing. Fred and Charlene were married until Fred’s passing in 2006.

In 2010 she met and married Thomas Michael Sondergaard. Charlene and Thomas relocated to Amarillo where she lived out the rest of her years in the home they built in Timbercreek Ranch.

Charlene always had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to her indoor plants, some of which she had for 20+ years. She was ever the fashionista and enjoyed “dressing” for all occasions. With her impeccable taste she insisted on looking her best and was never without her signature pink lipstick. In addition to her early talents and what will be remembered most, is how much Charlene loved to laugh. She was notorious for her laughs, slaps and snorts and whenever anything was funny she was the first to cut up and “act a fool.” Charlene will be remembered for lighting up the room with her beautiful smile and kind heart. She was a loving woman of faith and is now home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Ruby Keith; a sister-in-law, Vicki Keith.

Survivors include her husband Thomas Sondergaard of the home, a daughter Casey Bennett and husband Jonathan of Salida, CO; one grandchild Blake Bennett of Salida, CO; two brothers, Ronnie Keith of Amarillo; Randy Thomason of Granite, OK.
