Terry Lee Carter

Terry Lee Carter, 60, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, June 12, 2021 at New Light Ministries, 1001 NE 24th Ave. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Terry was born March 31, 1961 in Amarillo. He graduated from Tascosa High School where he was sang with the Freedom Singers. Terry worked as a nursing assistant at Northwest Texas Hospital and at several nursing homes. He also worked as a home health aide. Terry loved his work and was dedicated to helping people, especially young people. He was a substitute teacher at Horace Mann Middle School and several other schools for over 11 years. Terry was an active church member at New Light Ministries. His church work was very important to him. He was the lead singer for the church choir. Terry also volunteered at Amarillo Senior Citizens.

He was preceded in death by his father, Issiah Carter, Sr.; a sister, Joyce Ross; and a brother, Issiah Carter.

Survivors include his mother, Emma Marie Foster and husband James of Amarillo; six brothers, James Foster of Tennessee, John Lee Carter of Dallas, Jerry Lee Carter and wife Gayle, Joseph Foster, Tony Carter, and Chris Carter all of Amarillo; five sisters, Essie Carter, Martha Welch and husband Joseph, Betty Johnson and husband Mitch, Gloria Baker all of Amarillo, and Marsha Carter of Ft. Worth; and many nieces and nephews.
