The eighth of nine children, Windell was born at their farm home in Floyd County, TX to John C. Taylor and Bessie Lovell Taylor. The family moved to Plainview, TX where Windell received his formal education.

On February 6, 1950 Windell married the love of his life, Barbara Todd. They celebrated 65 years together until her passing in 2015.

At an early age Windell dedicated his life to the Christain ministry. He attended Wayland Baptist Church followed by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Windell served congregations in Whitfield (Claytonville), Lubbock, Fort Worth, Rio Vista, Boise City (OK), Wildorado and Amarillo. He was also a Chaplain at our local Veteran’s Hospital for 19 years, retiring at the age of 74. In addition, Windell served on numerous ministerial boards and organizations.

Windell had many loves in his life, the most important being his Lord and Savior, his wife and his family. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his great-great grandson. He took every opportunity to be with his family for a good meal and special occasions. Windell loved to talk with them about their activities, schooling and jobs. He was so blessed to officiate at several of his children and grandchildren’s weddings.

Another pleasure in Windell’s life was music. Self-taught, he could play multiple stringed instruments, the guitar and mandolin being his favorites. He especially enjoyed blue grass music, playing with several local bands in this area. Windell and Barbara attended numerous blue grass festivals.

Windell is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Barbara; his son Greg; sisters Edith James, Evelyn (Sis) Hudgins, Edna Hudgins, Ruby Birdsong, Bessie (Sister) Collis; brothers Charlie Taylor and Donald Taylor.
