Watch For This Scam
We want to make you aware of a new scam that is targeting grieving families.
We haven't had any issues at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, however, we want to make sure you and your personal information stay safe!
Scammers look at online obituaries and call families who have recently lost a loved one, pretending to be someone from the funeral home. They then say that the funeral home needs more money to serve their family. Often, they set up a meeting place to exchange money.
At Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, when you visit with us and plan for your loved one's care, we put paperwork in your hands regarding your bill and the payment plans that you have chosen. We will never call and arrange to meet with you off-site for payments for your funeral. If any changes need to be made, we will call you and you are welcome to call the funeral home back to make sure you are certain you are really talking to your funeral director. If you have any questions about those arrangements, please do call us at (806) 354-2585.
Otherwise, if you receive a suspicious call, please follow these steps:
1. Tell the caller that you will call them back.
2. Call the Funeral Home to verify.
3. Notify local law enforcement.
Only after you have confirmed that it is your funeral director should you give debit or credit card information for payment over the phone.
Please stay vigilant, and please let your friends and family know about this scam so they can stay safe, too.
